Sunday 27^th January to Thursday 7^th February – Our holiday with the kids.

 

Sunday 27^th January - Callao, Peru.

Ship docked at 8am and we got off in plenty of time to get picked up at 10am. We were told by the ship that the taxi would not be allowed to come into the port so we made our way to just outside of the port gates where we waited... and waited!

At 10-30am, with still no sign of anyone, Ian phoned the emergency contact number we had and it turns out that the taxi was actually waiting for us at the ship! (Audley Travel have a lot of power!!)

Anyway they eventually found us and we made our way into Lima and to the kids’ hotel in Miraflores.

After a big hello and a walk around the local area, we were picked up and taken to the bus station where we boarded the coach to Cusco (a journey time of 21 hours). The coach, though, was really good. It had plenty of room, free Wi-Fi, computer games, films (in English or with English subtitles) and vegetarian food.

The journey was along the coast until Nazca and then inland, up and over the Andes. The road here was full of twists and turns, so of course this is when they decided to serve the food and hot drinks!

Only got a little sleep and were noticeably out of breath at times. Woken at 6am by loud pan-pipe music out of the loudspeakers!
